For this post I thought I’d share my experiences of the Bath Christmas Market where we all travelled merrily to last weekend. I was only feeling just a little bit Christmassy prior to the visit, but now, I have definitely found and embraced my Christmas spirit!
Getting in to the centre of Bath isn’t easy on a quiet day but throw in hundreds of eager Christmas shoppers on the markets final day, and the struggle for parking is such that Father Christmas himself would have struggled to find a space.
Next time we’ll take the train.
Surrounding the ancient Roman Baths & Pump Room and Bath Abbey, the market could hardly be in a more picturesque place. We spent hours exploring the amazing variety of stalls that trailed off down quaint little side streets.
It was a cold day and the temptation to splash out and buy some of the incredibly welcoming woollen blankets was almost too much for me. Instead we made do with some mulled wine and a few other little hot snacks to warm us up. There are free samples a-plenty and I was genuinely amazed at the quality of food and drink on offer. We stocked up of course, Christmas is on the way! We even got a little something for penny the dog, although she’ll have to wait until Christmas to tear it open.
We returned to our car a little cold but all the merrier with our purchases, the kids loved it as well and they were soon asleep on the way home.
I can hardly wait for Christmas day now! Can you?
Hello Readers,
So this is my first post on my new blog! I can’t tell you how long this has been on my to-do list and now I’ve finally got around to it I’m not really sure where to begin! Perhaps it’d be best if I use this post to tell you a bit about myself and what I hope to get out of this blog of mine.
My name is Sophie Henderson. I am a Mother of two to Stephanie and Charlie, and have a wonderful husband, Bill. Together we are ruled over by the family dog Penny who joins us on our trips across the UK - oh that’s right I should have mentioned we like to travel, a lot!
Rain or shine (the former is often our experience seeing as it is the UK), we love to travel and experience all that our little island can offer. For something so small on the world stage it really has so much to offer to everyone. We don’t mind where we visit: rural or urban, modern or ancient, if it’s worth visiting we will travel the length and breadth of the Kingdom to see it.
We (yes, even kids) do enjoy our food and as a result we always try to secure a self-catered holiday when we plan a trip. There’s something about the freedom that comes with self-catered holidays which we’ve grown to love. We have a wander and find a nice restaurant we’d never have found if we’d have eaten at the hotel... and of course we can then wake up to breakfast at any time we like!
You unfortunately have missed our adventures up to the point of me opening this blog! To recall them all would be tantamount to a full time job so please stick around for my new adventures. I may recall the odd travel story here and there if the situation calls for it and I may even use it to make little lists or talk about anything that’s happening in the world of travel. Planning too much stifles creativity and so I’ll simply sit at my keyboard and type whatever comes to mind... maybe with a bit of editing! Stick around!
